Differences between Invisalign and Clear Braces

Clear braces and Invisalign are often mistaken as the same thing; however, they are two very different forms of teeth straightening. Essentially, clear braces function the same as normal braces, but they are made out of ceramic material that is camouflaged to match the color of your teeth. Clear braces still have brackets that are bonded to your teeth, but they are difficult to see. An Invisalign functions more like a retainer, slowly shifting your teeth into position, and is completely transparent. Both have their pros and cons, those of which this blog will explore.

Removal
One of the main differences between Invisalign and clear braces is that Invisalign can be removed whenever it is needed. Generally, it is only removed when eating or brushing teeth. This means that there are no restrictions on foods when wearing Invisalign as compared to wearing clear braces. Your teeth are also less likely to be stained when wearing Invisalign since it is much easier to floss and brush your teeth without braces.

Adjustments
Clear Braces do not need to be adjusted as often as Invisalign, which means fewer trips to the dentist. On average, the Invisalign appliance needs to be adjusted every two weeks, where clear Braces need to be adjusted every four weeks. Although it is true that some dentists supply their clients with a few pairs of Invisalign at a time. Make sure to ask about our Invisalign appliances in Granada Hills.

Comfort
Clear Braces are, of course, actual braces and can cause discomfort. Because they are made of ceramic, the braces are more brittle. They can also irritate the soft tissue in your mouth. Additionally, braces, in general, cause a lot more discomfort when they are tightened to adjust the teeth. An Invisalign is much more comfortable, but it cannot always fix more extensive cases of misalignment. However, one of the best things about Invisalign is that it is completely transparent and very difficult to notice.
